Q: Why is the League doing Live Scan?

A:   In short, to protect our player members further than in the past.  Our old system was antiquated.  Live Scan requires only one screening process during your time in our league, however gives us real-time information about our volunteers as profiles change, and provides that information through numerous and far-reaching agencies.  Many local leagues in District 68 and across the U.S. are adopting this platform for background checks.

Q: Who has access to the information, and how am I ensured confidentiality?

A:   SMVLL has 3 BOD members who have access to the information :

President – Mike Michota
Vice President – John Holland
Safety Officer – Bryan Ray

The league ensures confidentiality by following all rules and regulations required by the program and the DOJ.

Q: Who needs to participate in Live Scan?

A:   All SMVLL volunteers who work with or come in contact with our player members.  This list includes, but is not limited to:  Managers, Coaches, Team Parents, Umpires, Snack Shack and BBQ Volunteers.

Q: Will Live Scan replace the traditionally-used “Volunteer Form” that we have submitted in the past?

A:

Q: Where do I go, and what do I need to take with me?

A:   If you are processing your Live Scan at one of our posted SMVLL events , simply bring a photo ID.  We will supply the forms and everything else needed.  If you are processing your Live Scan at a local retailer, print the Live Scan form by clicking HERE and take it with you, along with a photo ID, to the participating retailer.

Q: How do I get reimbursed?

A:   If you incur an out-of-pocket expense related to Live Scan, please scan or take a photo of your receipt and email it to Rich Conser, SMVLL Treasurer, at richsmvll@gmail.com.  You will receive a check in the mail.

Q: What types of issues would make me ineligible?

A:

Q: What if someone is denied as a Volunteer?

A:   They will be notified in direct communication by our Safety Officer.

Q: If I choose to not participate in Live Scan, how can I still volunteer for my son or daughter’s season?

A:   You can’t.  Your ability to volunteer in any capacity is dependent on being on the Approved Volunteer List.

We understand that this process is new to our SMVLL community, and that you may have further questions.  Please feel free to contact our Safety Officer, Bryan Ray, at for further information.
